Our church is led by Dr. Gary Montgomery (right), a highly respected pastor with more than 60 years experience passionately preaching God’s word. Gary began his pastoral work at Shallow Ford Baptist Church in Erwin, TN, then later pastored Gateway Baptist Church and founded Gateway Christian School before moving to Parkway Baptist in Bristol. Gary has been described as an “evangelist in a pastor’s suit” due to his prolific in-person and radio preaching in his early ministry.

His brother, Dr. Larry Montgomery (left), a similarly renowned and experienced pastor, boldly proclaims God’s word during Sunday evening services. Larry serves as the Staff Evangelist at Parkway, but began his ministry in Florida while serving in the Navy as a pilot. His ministry has included the oversight of numerous well-known churches, Christian schools, seminaries, prison ministries and radio ministries reaching an audience of millions.

What to Expect at Parkway

Stepping into an unfamiliar church for the first time can be a little intimidating and maybe even uncomfortable for some people. When you visit Parkway Baptist you can expect to feel welcomed and accepted. We are a small, intimate church that is filled with singles, couples, families, infants, children, teens and senior adults.

A service typically lasts about an hour. We encourage attendees to dress in modest and respectful clothing to honor God and His house. Attendees for Sunday morning services tend to dress “business casual”, whereas Sunday and Wednesday evening services tend to be a blend of “business casual” and “casual”.

Each service begins with singing doctrinally rich hymns. We emphasize congregational singing (it allows everyone to sing praise to God with one voice) over performed music (which can spotlight individuals and create a spectator/entertainment environment). 

We then take prayer requests and the congregation prays for those requesting prayer. We give our offerings to the Lord, listen to the reading of Scripture, offer praise and prayer to God, and sit under the preaching of God’s Word.

We believe there is power in prayer. The Bible says the prayer of a believer is powerful and effective, yet something amazing happens when two or more agree together in prayer. In Matthew 18:19-20, Jesus said, “If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Food Distribution Program

Our food distribution program takes place the 4th Tuesday of every month between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Families in need may join the queue to drive around the building to our designated loading area where our volunteers will be happy to load your vehicle.
